Schnauzer Quick Facts

• Originated in Germany in the 1400's

• Name comes from the word "Schnauze"  (German for Snort)

• Comes in 3 sizes - Giant, Standard and Miniature

• Considered one of the non shedding dogs or hypoallergenic dogs

• No "Doggy Odor"

• Lifespan     Giant - 12 to 15 yrs       Standard - 15+ yrs      Miniature - 15+ yrs

• Long head, whiskers and beard

• Coat is "salt & pepper"  or black

• Height - Giant  23" to 28" to top of shoulders, Standard - 17" to 20",  Miniature - 12" to 14"

• Weight - Giant  60 to 80 lbs,  Standard - 30 to 45 lbs,  Miniature  10 to 15 lbs

•  Loves to be with owners - considered a "Velcro Dog"

• Easy to train but owner must take control

• Playful and affectionate

• Makes a great pet when properly trained

• Giants are  not the best with small children.  Although they are gentle, they tend to lean against them.

• The Miniature  is one of the all around best dogs for families

• The Miniatures will challenge larger dogs (that's the terrier in them)

• Needs regular exercise

• Requires regular grooming

• Giants - Cancer of the Toe (which is deadly)

• Standards - no major concerns

• Miniatures - No major concerns
