WHY DO DOGS CHASE THEIR TAILS?

WHY DO
DOGS CHASE THEIR TAILS?
Why do dogs chase their tails?
Your
best canine friend continually chases his tail but never seems to catch
it. Actually, if he did catch it, it would probably really
surprise him. Well, then why does he do that?
Tail chasing
is normal with dogs. It only becomes a problem if it is
excessive. That could indicate a medical or behavioral
problem.
How do we know if our dog's tail chasing is normal?
- Take your dog in to the Vet for a thorough physical

- Is he mutilating his tail?
- Can
he be distracted from the tail chasing or is he being obsessive about
it? This could be much like a human's obsessive habit of nail
biting, tapping the foot, etc.
- Check
for any problem in the tail area, such as a sore or hot spot that could
be causing pain or itching or possibly impacted anal glands.
- Sometimes dogs chase their tails due to Psychomotor
Epilepsy (partial seizures).
- Dogs, like children, sometimes do things because it
gets them attention, even if it's negative attention.
And
sometimes dogs
chase their tails simply because they want to.

The intelligence of a Poodle and the loyalty of a Lassie. The bark of a
Shepherd and the heart of a Saint Bernard. The spots of a Dalmatian,
the size of a Schnauzer, and the speed of a Greyhound. A genuine,
All-American Mutt has it all.
